Recent peer-review publication shows results of treating Wet AMD in Institute of Eye Surgery

13th October, 2014

A recent article published in the British Journal of Ophthalmology has shown that results following treatment with wet age-related macular degeneration at the Institute of Eye Surgery surpassed those of other countries.

You will see from figure 2A and figure 2B that in other countries vision initially improves, and then drifts downwards. However, in Ireland (of note, 87% of the Ireland data was collected from the Institute of Eye Surgery) the initial improvement is maintained.

This finding is attributable to the greater frequency of injections performed at the Institute of Eye Surgery (see table), prompting the conclusion of the article, as follows: “In clinical practice, fewer injections are administered than in clinical trials.”
