Professor O’Keeffe joined the Institute of Eye Surgery in 2020. He is the Newman Clinical Professor of Paediatric Ophthalmology at University College Dublin. His specialist interests include Laser Refractive Surgery. Professor O’Keeffe is a book and chapter editor and has published over two hundred peer review papers.

Professor O’Keeffe was awarded the Claud Worth Medal for his contribution to Paediatric Ophthalmology in 2004 by the British Child Health Foundation. In 2008, he was awarded the Eustace Medal for his research and contribution to Ophthalmology. He was the Montgomery lecturer in Trinity College Dublin in 2017. Professor O’Keeffe was awarded an honorary Fellowship in Paediatrics by The Irish College of Paediatrics and The Royal College of Physicians in Ireland in October 2018.
