The Institute of Eye Surgery (In collaboration with EyeLab) engages in world class ocular research and attracts the very best academic research talent that Ireland currently has to offer. EyeLab is a commercial entity involved in the procurement and exploitation of funding for ophthalmic innovations and research. Collectively, IoES specialists have published over 300 peer reviewed journal articles in leading eye publications, further advancing our knowledge and understanding of complex eye disease and therapeutics. IoES has also filed numerous technology patents and successfully spunout and exited the intellectual property rights of a multi-million euro granted cataract biometric device.

Research Sites: International 

Remit: To assess the long-term safety and efficacy of navigated 577nm laser (Navilas) for the  management of diabetic macular edema, central serous chorioretinopathy, retinal vein  occlusion, proliferative diabetic retinopathy and laser retinopexy.

Carl Zeiss Meditec GmbH: 2020-present 

Research Site: Institute of Eye Surgery, Ireland. 

Remit: To assess the long-term safety and efficacy of Nd:YAG laser vitreolysis for managing  vitreous floaters with the Visulas YAG III laser.

Bayer GmbH, Alcedis: 2019-present 

Research Sites: International. 

Remit: XTEND Phase 4 trial to examine the effectiveness of proactive treatment regimens of  intravitreal aflibercept in treatment-naïve patients with wet age-related macular degeneration.

Remit: Recruit, manage, collect data and analyse quality of life impact of vitreous floaters and  their correlation to a novel biomarker.

Remit: Medical device trialling, product launch specialist, medical advisory board member.  Multiple EMEA Clareon®Autonomelaunch contracts, launched Digitally Assisted Cataract  Surgery (DACS) with NGenuity®.

Remit: National coordinating investigator for Ireland: Recruit, manage and remotely link post marketing data for real world efficacy of tafluprost timolol combination in the treatment of  primary open angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension.
