Clinical Optometrist

The Institute of Eye Surgery (IoES) is a fast-paced private sub speciality Ophthalmic clinic based in Waterford with multiple clinics in Ireland. We are committed to patient satisfaction and developing efficient processes to ensure our Patient experience exceed expectations. IoES are pleased to be offering the opportunity to Optometrists to join our dynamic clinical team. This is a unique opportunity to work in the clinical side of Optometry which offers fantastic opportunities in career progression. You will be working with world leading surgeons covering a multitude of specialities unlike anything currently available in Ireland. Full training will be provided to supplement existing clinical experience.

 

Responsibilities

  • Take patient medical history, symptoms, visual acuity, auto refraction
  • Perform IOP both I-care & Goldman tonometry when needed
  • Operating & interpreting results from the OCT (Spectralis), ultrawide field SLO (Optos), Humphries Visual Fields analyser.
  • Perform optical biometric measurements
  • Liaise with surgeons in selecting appropriate IOLs for patients including monofocal IOLs, toric IOLs, Multifocal IOLs, secondary IOLs & monovision
  • Perform proficient slit lamp examinations including indirect ophthalmoscopy
  • Refraction and contact lens selection, insertion & removal
  • Be able to give clear, accurate instructions & advice to patients during their consultation
  • Deal with patient queries including; surgical queries, medication queries & post-op queries
  • Participate in formal/informal teaching for other members of the team

 

Knowledge, skills and competencies

  • FAOI/BSc Optom or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years full time practice as an optometrist
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with patients
  • Commitment to patient centred approach
  • Reliable and able to take responsibility for delegated tasks

Trainee Ophthalmic Assistant

IoES are currently recruiting for a dynamic individual to join their Ophthalmic Technicians 2-year training scheme. The role will involve a combination of practical hands on training to support clinical activity as well as theory based online training to become a certified Ophthalmic Technician.

The successful applicant will be responsible for adherence to clinical protocols, standards and practices, ensuring a high standard of patient care and an efficient patient journey through the clinic.

  • Relevant 3rd level qualification desirable not essential
  • Career minded with an interest in Ophthalmology
  • Professional attitude and presentation
  • Self -Motivated with ability to use own initiative
